exclusive contemporary jewellery handmade by UK craftsmen
Aurum contemporary jewellers based in Worthing, West Sussex are British jewellery designers specialising in one-off pieces of contemporary jewellery in platinum, gold and fine gemstones. We always have a good selection of handmade jewellery designed by Andrew Leggett, and created in our own workshop. Since 1985 we have been designing modern jewellery of all kinds, attracting clients from across the UK.
handmade jewellery in platinum and gold
Our jewellery designers produce exclusive handmade jewellery of all kinds in gold and platinum, with or without diamonds or other gems. Many people are unaware that most modern jewellery is mass produced in highly mechanised factories by semi-skilled workers. In years gone by, all jewellery was handmade by highly skilled craftsmen, and that is how Andrew Leggett designer-jewellers still work. Our jewellery designers start with sheets or rods of platinum or gold, and using traditional hand tools, like saws, files and pliers we painstakingly create beautiful and unique items of handmade jewellery. Working in this way means that customers are not restricted in their choice to the items of contemporary jewellery in stock. Much of what we make for clients is based on an idea in our stock of modern jewellery, but modified to suit them. Buying handmade jewellery means you are not likely to see anyone wearing an identical piece. - Commission a piece of bespoke jewellery, and it will be unique to you!
unique modern jewellery
A unique piece of handmade jewellery is a perfect way to mark one of life's special occasions. Proposing with a bespoke engagement ring says so much more than a mass-produced off-the-shelf ring ever could, and a pair unique wedding rings makes your big day even more special. Commissioning a unique piece of contemporary jewellery is the perfect way to mark so many occasions, from a christening, or a first communion to a coming of age, a wedding, a ruby wedding or even a golden wedding anniversary. Why settle for an 'off the shelf' gift when with a little more thought, you can show that special someone how much you care, with a unique piece of bespoke jewellery created especially for them by our talented jewellery designers?
bespoke jewellery - the design process
If commissioning a piece of bespoke jewellery is something you find daunting, don't worry; it is really quite straightforward. It may be new to you, but creating items of bespoke jewellery for our clients is what we do every day, so we have had a lot of practice. You'll deal directly with one of our skilled jewellery designers, who will guide you gently through the design process. We aim to create exactly what you have in mind, so we will talk to you about your concept, and discuss some of the options, and their pros and cons. Gradually as some ideas are rejected and others developed, the concept will be fine-tuned into into a finished design that both you and the designer understand. Usually we do some rough sketches as we go along, and sometimes this is enough, but often we also do some clearer drawings on the computer. The price of the item of bespoke jewellery can be calculated at this stage, once we know exactly what we are quoting for. An alternative approach is to start from the price. If you set us a budget, we can come up with ideas that will fit it.
Our knowledgeable jewellery designers are always happy to discuss contemporary jewellery, and offer advice and estimates. If you have an idea for an item of bespoke jewellery, and would like us to quote, please call into the shop in Worthing, West Sussex, where you will see many examples of our handmade jewellery. If this is not possible we would prefer a phone call to an e-mail, as we will probably need to ask you some questions before we can calculate a price.
We also stock contemporary jewellery by selected modern jewellery designers, including Bunz, Stockert, David Webdale, Yen and Trollbeads.
